No Moore AI

What if artificial intelligence did not simply extend Moore’s law, but manufactured an environment in which humanity becomes the slow, measured and finally unfit species? Starting from current events, the pamphlet AI Must Die and my E.L.I.O.T. project, I examine an acceleration that is as industrial as it is technical. I call “terminal Darwinism” the moment when machines no longer merely assist us: they impose the criteria by which we must work, speak, create and exist.

Moore’s law described the acceleration of electronic components. Applied to AI as a promise of ever-increasing power, it becomes something else: a social programme. The aim is no longer merely to make faster machines, but to reorganise work, speech and creation around their pace. I call “terminal Darwinism” the moment humans are declared too slow by criteria set by their own tools.

The small book AI Must Die rejects the industry’s triumphal narrative. It gathers critical perspectives on the material, political and cultural costs of AI systems. In my 2017 manifesto E.L.I.O.T., I already described this struggle as a war of languages: who names the world, who keeps our words and who decides which kinds of dialogue are possible? Contemporary models give that question a new scale.

A prompt can produce graffiti reading “AI killed me”; it does not thereby invent the historical context, shared memory and shifts of meaning that would make the sentence a situated artwork. The two images in the article reveal the distance between fabrication and interpretation. A machine assembles signs; placing them responsibly within a history remains human work.

No Moore AI is not a prediction of extinction. It is a threshold of refusal: every increase in capability should be matched by at least as much public control, accountability and power to interrupt. A species does not survive by accelerating alone. It preserves relationships, differences and alternative paths that no curve can measure.
