AI Predictions 2027

In 2024, for an exhibition project at the Centre Pompidou, I asked an AI to predict the Olympic winners before the Games took place. With AI Predictions 2027, I turn that experiment into a living observatory: 67 oracles evolve every day according to new data, their oracularity, their green, yellow or red status, and their self-fulfilling power.

In January 2024, for an exhibition at the Centre Pompidou, I asked an AI to name the future Olympic winners. The athletes depicted were real; their victories had not yet happened. By pixelating their actual faces, I wanted to introduce doubt into an image of the future presented as calculable. Three years later, prediction is no longer a simple exercise: it organises markets, institutions and a growing part of everyday life.

An AI model predicts a likely sequence of signs; an economic system anticipates demand, risk or returns. These operations are not identical, but they share a power: ranking possibilities before they become facts. From the ancient oracle to the contemporary score, whoever announces the future may also steer the decisions that bring it about. This is the self-fulfilling part of prophecy.

With AI Predictions 2027, I propose a living register of 67 oracles covering politics, economics, wars, technology, climate and social life. Each has a dated statement, sources, a colour—green, yellow or red, from most favourable to most critical—and an estimate of its “oracularity”: the share of reality its announcement might help create.

The project readjusts every day as new information arrives. Nothing is erased: shifts, contradictions and failed predictions remain visible. I do not merely want to know in 2028 whether the machine was right. I want to watch it rebuild its future when the present resists, and see how our beliefs move with it.
